After a period of relative silence, EJ Automotive will return to the fiercely competitive world of sprint racing in 2025. The Belgian team, which previously achieved success in the Fiesta Sprint Cup Benelux with a Dutch title and two vice-championships in Belgium, is once again focusing on competitive sprint racing – this time choosing the Renault Clio Cup as its battleground. This is not uncharted territory for the team led by Jurgen Evers, as they have already experienced success in Clio Cup racing, notably with Gregory Eyckmans behind the wheel of the French sprint machine.
A Comeback After Challenging Years
Following its successes in the Fiesta Sprint Cup, EJ Automotive explored new horizons, including an ambitious project in the German GTC series with a Ginetta GT4. However, this programme never fully materialised. At the same time, a real estate and hotel project in southern Spain demanded significant attention, but that project has now firmly established itself.
“It was time for a new challenge and the next chapter in motorsport,” says Jurgen Evers, Team Owner of EJ Automotive. “We have prepared everything thoroughly and are ready to make our mark on motorsport again in 2025.”
To stay active, EJ Automotive participated in several races in the Belcar Sprint Cup in 2023 and 2024, achieving some promising results. However, at the end of last year, the decision was made to fully commit to a structured racing season once again.
Why the Renault Clio Cup?
“For our comeback, EJ Automotive has deliberately chosen the Renault Clio Cup, a series known for its competitive grids, strong manufacturer support, and separate categories for young talents and gentleman drivers,” continues Jurgen Evers. “After an initial test with one car last year, the team now has three Renault Clio cars ready for the 2025 season. We are not rushing into this and will do everything to achieve strong performances with our drivers.”
Plans for 2025
In 2025, EJ Automotive will compete in the Clio Cup Mid Europe, a championship featuring five race weekends at some of Europe’s most iconic circuits. The team is also considering additional entries in the British Clio Cup or the Central Europe Clio Cup.
“The first confirmed driver for 2025 is Kristoff Cox, who will compete in several races. Additionally, EJ Automotive is still looking for two more drivers to complete the team,” says Jurgen Evers, looking ahead to the driver line-up. “Kristoff and the team are almost like family, given how often we work together in such a great atmosphere.”
